The short version
Asana is one of the most capable work-management platforms around. If you need a Gantt-style timeline, portfolios across dozens of projects, approvals, or an automation builder, it has them and Sunrise doesn’t.
Sunrise is for a different kind of team: a handful of people on Gmail and Google Workspace who mostly need shared projects, a board, and a plan that fits around their calendar. For those teams, much of Asana is more tool, and more money, than the job needs.
Where Sunrise is the better fit
- You already run on Google. Sunrise syncs two ways with Google Tasks and puts Calendar events next to your tasks in Today and Upcoming. Sign in with Google and there’s no new account to set up. Read how Google Tasks sync works.
- Price matters. Business is $2.99 per member a month billed yearly at early-bird pricing, and $5.99 after early access ends. Asana’s paid plans start at about $10.99 per user a month billed yearly. Guests on shared projects are free in Sunrise.
- You want it simple. A few views, comments, assignees, and reminders cover most small-team work. There’s nothing to configure before you can start.
- People mix work and personal accounts. A Business seat includes Pro features across an employee’s linked work and personal Google accounts. Personal tasks stay private from company admins.
Where Asana is the better fit
- Planning across many projects. Timeline, portfolios, and goals help managers track work at scale.
- Process and approvals. Asana’s workflow tools and approvals suit repeatable processes with many handoffs.
- A larger organization. If you need enterprise security and compliance controls or custom contracts, Asana has an enterprise offering.
Making the switch
There’s no need to move everything at once. Try Sunrise on one project with a few teammates: sign in with Google, create the project, and invite them. Every feature is open during early access, and the Free plan has no card required. See pricing for details.
Asana’s plans and prices change from time to time. The figures above were checked in October 2026 against asana.com/pricing; check there for current details.
