The short version
Todoist is one of the best personal task managers there is. It’s quick to use, runs everywhere, and has a deep set of filters, templates, and integrations. If your main need is a powerful to-do list for yourself, it’s hard to beat.
Sunrise is aimed at a different job: a small team on Gmail and Google Workspace that wants shared projects, a board, and a plan built around Google Calendar, without paying business-tool prices per seat.
Where Sunrise is the better fit
- Your team shares projects. Sunrise organizes work in teams and projects, with assignees, comments, and live updates. Coworkers who sign in with a verified company domain join your organization automatically. Guests on shared projects are free.
- You want a calendar view without upgrading. Todoist’s calendar layout is part of Pro and Business. In Sunrise, list, kanban, and calendar views are on the Free plan.
- You use Google Tasks. Tasks assigned to you appear in a Sunrise list in Google Tasks, so you can finish them from your phone or the Gmail sidebar. See the Google Tasks sync guide.
- Price per seat matters. Business is $2.99 per member a month billed yearly at early-bird pricing, and $5.99 after early access ends. Todoist Business is $8 per user a month billed yearly.
- Work and personal both matter. A Business seat includes Pro features across an employee’s linked work and personal Google accounts. Personal tasks stay private from company admins.
Where Todoist is the better fit
- Personal productivity. Todoist has a mature filter system, a large template library, and a long list of integrations.
- Depth over breadth. Power users with hundreds of tasks across many projects will find more tools for slicing their list.
- Not tied to Google. If your team doesn’t use Gmail and Google Calendar, Sunrise’s main advantage doesn’t apply.
Todoist also shows your Google Calendar events alongside your tasks, so that part isn’t a difference between the two.
Making the switch
Start with one shared project rather than moving everything. Sign in with Google, create the project, add your tasks, and invite a teammate. Every feature is open during early access, and the Free plan needs no credit card. See pricing for plans.
Todoist’s plans and prices change from time to time. The figures above were checked in October 2026 against todoist.com/pricing; check there for current details.
