How to use Google Tasks as a kanban board

Organize Google Tasks in a kanban-style board to see work by list, move tasks between stages, and stay synced with Google.

A kanban workflow for Google Tasks helps you see tasks by list or stage instead of a flat checklist. Sunrise mirrors your Google Tasks lists as kanban columns so you can drag tasks between lists while staying synced with Google.

Step 1: Set up task lists in Google Tasks

Create lists that match your workflow — for example “To do”, “In progress”, and “Done”, or project-based lists. Google Tasks supports multiple lists tied to your Google account.

Step 2: Open the kanban view in Sunrise

Sign in to Sunrise with Google. Open the kanban board to see each Google Tasks list as a column with your tasks as cards.

Step 3: Drag tasks between columns

Move a task from one column to another to change its list in Google Tasks. Updates sync back to Google automatically, so the same organization appears in the Google Tasks app and sidebar.

Step 4: Pair kanban with your calendar

Use Sunrise’s Today view alongside kanban — see meetings on your calendar and pull the next task from your board without switching apps.

Why kanban beats a flat task list

A flat list hides context. Kanban makes it obvious what is waiting, in progress, and done. Because Sunrise uses native Google Tasks sync, you are not locked into a separate task system.
